Hey everybody,
We're a Sunday into our new preaching series on "Rest." Pastor Jordan kicked it off yesterday, preaching mostly from Hebrews 3 (3:7-4:1 to be exact). You can listen or read here to stay caught up!
Also, as our book-of-the-month we're recommending The Radical Pursuit of Rest by John Koessler as a great compliment to Jordan's preaching series. And it's the top recommendation from Jordan, out of the books he's read in the past several months of study for this series. Click through our online bookstore to grab a copy from Amazon!
We had two baptisms yesterday - one in each service. Jeanine McDonell and Chris Gamez were baptized, and their testimonies were so clear and Christ-exalting. Welcome them into the church family (officially) when you see them!
We sang the following songs yesterday:
- Our Song from Age to Age (by Sovereign Grace Music)
- What a Friend We Have in Jesus (Traditional)
- How Great is Our God/How Great Thou Art (by Chris Tomlin, Charlie Hall arrangement)
- He Will Hold Me Fast (By Matt Merkle, Norton Hall Band arrangement)
- How Marvelous (Traditional)
"He Will Hold Me Fast" is a new song that we sang together for the first time yesterday. I'm adding the lyrics below, for you to read through and contemplate this week. We brought this song in partly to reinforce our series on rest; but we plan to keep it around for a while. We hope this hymn sticks in your head and heart as you pursue rest in Jesus, until we're together again on Sunday!
When I fear my faith will fail
Christ will hold me fast
When the tempter would prevail
He will hold me fast
I could never keep my hold
Through life's fearful path
For my love is often cold
He must hold me fast
He will hold me fast
He will hold me fast
For my Savior loves me so
He will hold me fast
Those He saves are His delight
Christ will hold me fast
Precious in His holy sight
He will hold me fast
He'll not let my soul be lost
His Promises shall last
Bought by Him at such a cost
He will hold me fast
For my life He bled and died
Christ will hold me fast
Justice has been satisfied
He will hold me fast
Raised with Him to endless life
He will hold me fast
Till our faith is turned to sight
When He comes at last
