Sunday Recap: 1/28/18, Communion Sunday!

by Josh Starkey on January 29, 2018

Well it's been a great month together, and it was a great Sunday together yesterday. We pray that you're doing well in the Lord, and finding peace and encouragement in Christ in the new year.

Jordan continued yesterday in our Ezra/Nehemiah series, with a message on chapter 2 entitled "Preparation: The Lifeblood of a Leader." Listen or read here!

Yesterday was a communion Sunday, which is always so important for this local church. If you're newer to our church family, we take communion together the last Sunday of every month, and we do believe it's one of the most important means of grace for a Christian. God graciously gives us this way to remember Christ, to renew our affections and adoration for our Savior, and to unify together as God's people around the pure truths of the Gospel. Rick Holland says this about communion:

"Communion is the best safeguard against doctrinal error, the best defense against apathy and lethargy, the best motivation for love and excitement for the Redeemer, and the best window into the depth and accessibility of gospel truth...God understands we forget. That's why He put Communion in our path...How do you uneclipse Jesus? You hold precious His death and remember His greatness. How do you hold that He is precious? By examining your life and seeing your sinfulness and loving His sacrifice on the cross on your behalf."

So make sure you plan to be here with us, and to take the bread and cup of the Lords table with us each month. It's a crucial foundation of our gathered worship.

Yesterday, along with all the other busy and good things, we sang the following:

  1. Nothing but the Blood (traditional, Andy Cherry bridge)
  2. Near the Cross (traditional, our own arrangement)
  3. Glory Awaits (by Sovereign Grace Music)
  4. O Come to the Altar (by Elevation Worship)
