Preparing for Sunday, 6/22/14!

by Josh Starkey on June 21, 2014

This Sunday kicks off our Summer series in Proverbs. As Jordan has been talking about the past several weeks, this series will be preached partly by him, and partly by some of our other in-house guys, which include Marshall Walter, Danny Lee, and Eric Durso. This will be a great time to hear from other preaching voices in our church family, and learn from the book of Proverbs together. Marshall is preaching this Sunday. We'll be reading Proverbs 1:1-9 in service tomorrow as well, and we'd all benefit from reading the passage ahead of time.

Songs we'll sing tomorrow include:

1. Eternal Praise

2. God of Wonders (with the "Doxology" tagged in the middle!)

3. Man of Sorrows

4. My Savior's Blood Ever Pleads

5. Leaning on the Everlasting Arms

Just a note about "My Savior's Blood Ever Pleads." This is an original song that we wrote for our church family to sing together. The band introduced it 2 weeks ago, and we highlighted this idea. The chorus says, "My Savior's blood ever pleads for me, and my hope is fixed, evermore complete." The word "fixed" there is meant to be the idea of "secured" or "anchored," in the sense that you'd "fix" something to a wall, or ride a "fixed gear" bike if you're into that hipster stuff.

Why we wanted to share this song with the church is, it helps us sing in another, fresh way through what God has actually accomplished for us, His people, through the sacrifice of His Son. Christ's blood, shed for us, has secured our salvation from our sin, and our adoption as sons of God. As Christians, our hope of eternal life with God is secured, and fixed, by Christ and in Christ! So hopefully we can keep learning this song, and exult in the Gospel together as we sing tomorrow.

See ya' there!
